Arnau Tomás, Spain
Born in Barcelona, cellist Arnau Tomás has gained international recognition as the founder of the Cuarteto Casals and the Ludwig Trio. He has performed worldwide with both ensembles on big stages. During his studies with Ivan Monighetti and Frans Helmerson he gave recitals for cello solo and played concerts with the Orquesta de Radiotelevisión Española and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Barcelona. In addition to winning various awards, both as a soloist and with the Cuarteto Casals, he participated in a televised masterclass of Yo Yo Ma featuring Bach's cello suites at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Arnau Tomás has recorded several CDs, including a solo CD with works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Zoltán Kodály and Gaspar Cassadó. With the Ludwig Trio he has recorded chamber music works by Ludwig van Beethoven. Upcoming projects include a recording of Beethoven's Triple Concerto with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia. In addition to his international concert career, Arnau Tomás teaches at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya and has given master classes throughout Europe as well as in the USA.
