Rules and Regulations

  1. The 9th International FRANZ LISZT Piano Competition Weimar – Bayreuth is open to pianists of all nationalities who were born after 1 January 1987. The management may make exceptions in certain cases.
  2. The competition is comprised of a pre-selection/audition and four rounds of judging. The first round of the competition will take place in Bayreuth and all other rounds will take place in Weimar.The competition is open to the public in all four rounds.
  3. The order of performance for the competitors is determined by random selection in the form of a lottery system. All works must be performed from memory.
  4. The order of works to be performed in each level can be determined by the candidate. After registration, minimal program changes are accepted until July 5, 2018. Afterwards it is not possible to change the program anymore.
  5. The prize winners must accept their prize in person. Prizes will be awarded directly following the final concert. It is obligatory for the prize winner to take part in a prize winner's concert in Bayreuth without receiving a fee.
  6. The competition may be recorded or transmitted and all recordings are the property of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar. The participants agree to this and do not have any publication rights.
  7. Participants are responsible for hotel and travel costs. International participants, especially from Eastern Europe, may apply for a subsidy for these costs. No one is automatically entitled to receive a subsidy.
  8. The competition will cover accommodation costs in prearranged facilities for candidates who have reached the second round.
  9. The decision of the jury is final. An appeal of the decision is not possible.
  10. By registering, candidates accept all rules and regulations of the competition, as well as possible changes in the jury.
