Required qualifications

The following qualifications are required for studying at the University of Music  FRANZ LISZT Weimar:

  • To study musicology or music education, you will need to demonstrate that you hold the 'Allgemeine Hochschulreife' or equivalent.
  • For all other courses, you will generally need to demonstrate that you have obtained the 'Allgemeine Hochschulreife' or equivalent; in cases of exceptional artistic talent, this condition may be waived if the applicant scores 3.0 points more than necessary for a successful audition in the core subject audition (as outlined in the regulations for the audition).
  • Furthermore, you will need to successfully take an audition at the University of Music  FRANZ LISZT Weimar, according to the institution's regulations for auditions. For the concert diploma course, you will need to hold an undergraduate degree in the subject you are intending to take as your major subject, as well as successfully taking the audition. A degree in music education is not sufficient.
  • Language skills on level B2 can be proven, for example, with the 'Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang' (DSH), the 'Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache' (TestDaF), 'The European Language Certificates' (telc), or Goethe certificates. We recommend attending a certified language school. Applicants for programmes in musicology, arts management, or music education will need to demonstrate skills at C1 level.
