Spitzen-Sport-Musik. Karrierewege und übergänge
Sport und Musik passieren zwar in grundsätzlich unterschiedlichen Feldern, weisen aber gewisse Ähnlichkeiten auf. Einer sehr großen Menge äußerst talentierter junger Menschen stehen eher weniger erfolgreiche Star-Karrieren gegenüber. Für viele erfolgreiche Musiker*innen und Sportler*innen zeigen sich vergleichbare Hürden bei der Laufbahnplanung. Defizite in der Ausbildung betreffen weniger die sportlich-musikalischen Fertigkeiten als vielmehr personale und soziale Skills für eine beruflich erfolgreiche weitere Entwicklung im Sport und der Musik.
Diese Bedingungen werden zum Anlass genommen, in Form einer Auftakt-Veranstaltung Musiker*innen und Sportler*innen, Sport- und Kulturmanager*innen, Laufbahnberater*innen und Musikagent*innen in ein Gespräch zu bringen. Trotz unterschiedlicher Voraussetzungen und Herausforderungen wird davon ausgegangen, dass alle Seiten voneinander lernen können und dass die unterschiedlichen Erfahrungen neue Perspektiven auf den eigenen Standpunkt ermöglichen.

Voices of Women (VOW)
Songs by female composers in the context of social and political circumstances - this is the motto under which musicians from various countries will meet at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar from 10 to 12 April.
The "Voices of Women" conference as part of the transnational ERASMUS+ project will bring them together for concerts, masterclasses, keynote speeches and discussions. Together, students and professors will address questions about women in the world of music and look for ways to raise the profile of female musicians and composers.

All events take place in the Am Palais hall at the Weimar Music university. Voices of Women" is organised and managed by Lena Haselmann-Kränzle, Professor of Singing and Voice Training at the Weimar University of Music. She will open the conference on Wednesday, 10 April at 11:00am with a Lied masterclass. Professor Clemens Tiburtius from Weimar will host a "Jazz Vocal" masterclass on the same day at 3:00pm. Two further masterclasses will be taught by professors from Norway: Professor Bettina Smith from the University of Stavanger on Friday, 12 April at 10:00am and Professor Anne-Lise Sollied from Tromsø on 12 April at 1:00pm.
Public concerts with works by female composers will take place on Wednesday, 10 April at 6:00pm and on Friday, 12 April at 7:00pm in the Saal Am Palais. Admission to the conference and the two concerts is free. Digital conference participation via Zoom can be registered at friederike.wrobel(at)hfm.uni-weimar.de.
Students at the Weimar Music university have already been researching women in music before the conference and will be presenting their findings in lectures. Constanze Zacharias, for example, will speak about women in jazz on 10 April at 2:00pm. Jana Herold's subsequent contribution will also deal with women in jazz and the gender imbalance in the German scene.
On 11 April at 11:15am, Stefanie Dzjubak will talk about feminist practice in music lessons. At 12.15pm, Anna Grünhardt will talk about "male vs. female genius". This will be followed by Friederike Wrobel with a historical lecture on composition lessons at the Weimar Music university and its gender relations.
Female professors from various universities are also invited to give talks: Prof. Dr Lise K. Meling from the University of Stavanger, Prof. Dr Lilli Mittner from the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø - and Prof. Dr Petra Broomans, Prof. Dr Janke Klok and Dr Kristin McGee from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. The contributions will deal with topics such as the social conditions of women in composition, the work of Fanny Mendelssohn and women's voices in jazz.
As part of the conference, there will also be a tour of the city on 11 April at 6:00pm and a memorial event with a lecture on the Jewish singer, artist and educator Jenny Fleischer-Alt (1863-1942), who lived in Weimar as an exceptional singer and educator with great influence - and took her own life out of fear of deportation by the National Socialists.
Voices of Women (VOW) is a transnational educational project funded by the ERASMUS+ programme. The project connects students and teachers in order to strengthen and secure the rightful place of women in historical, contemporary and future art production.
VOW contributes to the EU's shared values of cultural awareness anchored in historical heritage, giving women's works their fair share of attention, analysis, interpretation and performance.
The project activities aim to perform and promote repertoire created by women composers in Europe with a focus on the 19th and 20th centuries. A further aim of VOW is to build a transnational network of artists, researchers and stakeholders who want to help ensure that women are given their rightful place in the world of music.
In spring 2023, Voices of Women was already represented with masterclasses and workshops at the Weimar Music university. A delegation of students also visited the University of Tromsø in winter 2023 as part of the project. The final conference of the VOW project is planned for November 2024 at the University of Stavanger in Norway.

Spring conference of the AG Musikhochschulbibliothekare
The "Spring Conference" of the AG Musikhochschulbibliothekare in the IAML Germany ("International Association of Music Librarians") will take place this year in Weimar on 14 and 15 March. It is aimed exclusively at librarians from German Music universities. For over 30 years, music university librarians have been meeting annually for a "spring conference", always at a different music university.
This year's conference topic relates to the digitisation of sheet music and sound recordings, retention obligations and long-term storage. All Music universities face the same challenges in the library sector: In addition to the previous topics of acquisition, presentation of media, lending, procurement of orchestral rental material, etc., digital topics are increasingly being added: be it the acquisition and application of digital media (electronic books, journals and sheet music, databases), lending of electronic hardware (e.g. I-Pads), the necessary digitisation of old holdings and their long-term archiving or changes in cataloguing and in the catalogue and lending system.
The main aim of the conference is to learn from each other and to promote networking. It begins on Thursday with reports from the participating libraries. This will be followed by guided tours of the recording studio, the main building of the university, the main library in the Fürstenhaus and the Duchess Anna Amalia Library. The dialogue between colleagues will continue over dinner at Cielo.
Friday morning is dedicated to a World Café, where participants can discuss their own experiences of library digitisation topics in small groups. Ideally, topics will crystallise on which there is a particular need for information and which should be explored in greater depth at further meetings. Each participant will, of course, take back suggestions from Weimar to their own library. On Friday afternoon, the topic of long-term digital archiving will be explored in greater depth during guided tours of the university archive and the digitisation department of the Duchess Anna Amalia Library. The conference will end with a music-related city tour.
In the library reading room, Weimar library topics will be presented, such as the I-Pad lending service, the Nkoda music bank and the cataloguing of the Gottschalk Collection with participation in the Judaica portal.
KuMa X Climate
Weimar Conference on Sustainability in Art and Culture | Moderation: Mia Heresch

The conference "KuMa X Climate" is aimed at all those interested in learning more about sustainability in the cultural sector. In the Fürstenhaus Weimar, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., practical, individual solutions for the various cultural sectors will be developed and basic knowledge imparted in the form of lectures, workshops and a panel discussion with selected experts.
The conference is aimed not only at students and alumni of the Master's degree programme in Arts Management, but also at interested parties from other degree programmes as well as employees of associations and local cultural institutions. Admission is free!
In the evening, there will also be the opportunity to network and exchange ideas in - according to the organisers - "a relaxed atmosphere with disco nostalgia, bassy funk and pulsating garage house by DJ Phoebes".

Proceedings of the conference
At the beginning, a keynote speech will be given by Tobias Knoblich, followed by lectures by Jakob Ripp and Friederike von Rosenberg. The lecture "Is this culture or can it go? World Heritage at the Crossroads of Climate Change, Use and Sustainability" will be presented by Ms von Rosenberg, Director of the Palaces, Gardens and Buildings of the Klassik Stiftung in Weimar. The input will deal with questions that institutions have to ask themselves in times of climate change, as this leads to increased demands of both a structural-technical and a political-philosophical nature.
A panel discussion on the topic "Mastering the sustainable transformation - what do we need for the future?" with guests Dirk Schütz from the Kulturmanagement Network, Judith Drühe from the Kulturrat Thüringen, KuMa graduate Christina Koop and Jakob Ripp from the Nationaltheater Weimar will kick off an exciting discourse on content that will provide students with practical tips.
Participants can choose between three workshops when registering:
- → "From CO₂ balancing, circular economy and corporate sustainability management - ... from talking to acting" with Jakob Ripp, Lutz Hoffmann.
The workshop revolves around strategic sustainability management for cultural organisations and will be presented by Jakob Ripp and Lutz Hoffmann. The focus will be on questions such as, "You want to act, but don't know where and how to get into action?" "Find approaches with us!" - Appropriate to the operation and planned with the essential goals of one's own cultural work and marked out with milestones, there are handouts for an overview of sustainable action in a cultural operation: How can concrete action be taken so that a change in culture towards just action can be brought about together?
- → "Gender Equity" with Nora Thiele and Julia Keidl
"What is the music industry actually doing for the equality of musicians?" This is the question posed by the workshop of Music Women*Thuringia and deals with discriminatory structures in the music industry. It will be led by multi-instrumentalist, artistic director and composer Nora Thiele and musician and music educator Julia Keidl.
- → "Sustainability Communication - Cultural Enterprises as Ambassadors" with Fenja Petersen
Between Greenwashing and Reporting Obligations - Sustainability Communication of Cultural Enterprises - The workshop "Sustainability Communication - Cultural Enterprises as Ambassadors" will be held by Fenja Petersen, cultural scientist and head of corporate communication in family and commercial enterprises. Visitors, employees, sponsors - cultural institutions are increasingly being asked about their sustainability. Answer reactively or communicate proactively? Meeting standards or setting new themes? This workshop looks at the why, how and what of sustainability communication and discusses the role of cultural institutions in the sustainability discourse.

- Creating proposals for curriculum redesign and social change in arts education
- Establishing a transnational network of art practitioners, researchers, and (political) actors who want to contribute to giving women their rightful place in the historical, contemporary, and future arenas of art production

Conference on the history of popular music at the Lippmann+Rau Music Archive Eisenach
The history of popular music will be the focus of a conference on January 27 and 28, 2023, at the Lippmann+Rau Music Archive in Eisenach. The conference marks the conclusion of a phase of indexing the archive and digitizing selected archive holdings funded by the Thuringian State Chancellery.
The event will take place in the Jazzkeller Eisenach (Palmental 1) and is organized by the Lippmann+Rau Foundation Eisenach and the Department of Musicology Weimar-Jena of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and the FSU Jena. In charge on the Weimar side is Prof. Dr. Martin Pfleiderer, professor for the history of jazz and popular music.
The interdisciplinary conference "Popular Music and its History: Collecting - Researching - Publishing" deals with the reception history of popular music in the FRG and the GDR. The lectures and discussions will be devoted to collectors and research institutions in East and West and to current research work in the Lippmann+Rau Music Archive.
The renowned jazz and rock publicist Siegfried Schmidt-Joos will report on his work on the rock encyclopedia first published in 1973. In addition, a roundtable discussion will focus on the important cultural work of jazz clubs in the GDR.
Popular music has a diverse and rich history. In the course of the 20th century, jazz, rock and pop have become musical traditions that are played and heard, collected and researched worldwide. Collectors, researchers, and publicists have worked together to preserve and keep alive the history of popular music.
Private collectors as well as music journalists and scholars have collected countless pieces of information on the history of popular music and have evaluated and prepared them in their publications for a larger readership and audience. Their collections and archives of records, magazines and other information form an important basis for research in music history.
