Research

The University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar sees music research as an academic reflection that forges a bridge between the historical and contemporary performance of music, including in the connection between cultures and continents. It encourages the bringing-together of theory and practice, generating comprehensive information for the practice of music-making.

The Department of Musicology Weimar-Jena, in its current form, serves as a model for a future-oriented approach to musicology, which, alongside the ‘core business’ of a modern university of music (early music, music of the classical and romantic periods and contemporary music), also looks at the fields of popular music, music in the era of globalisation and Jewish music history.
