The 10th International JOSEPH JOACHIM Chamber Music Competition in Weimar, starting 30 March

The University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar is hosting the 10th International JOSEPH JOACHIM Chamber Music Competition in spring 2025. The competition will take place from 30 March to 6 April 2025 at the Fürstenhaus of the University of Music in Weimar and honours the legacy of the great violinist and composer Joseph Joachim by promoting artistic excellence in chamber music.

The registration portal at www.hfm-weimar.de/joachim is open, with applications accepted until 19 January.

After two rounds of judging and the final in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus, the best ensembles can win prizes worth a total of more than €20,000. The main prize is €10,000. In addition to the prize money, the participants receive international recognition and valuable networking opportunities.

A varied repertoire from early classical to contemporary works is required. Works from the early and late classical periods as well as from the Romantic period are required. In addition, there is a focus on modernism with works composed after 1900 and after 1970.

The high-calibre, international jury is chaired by the President of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and violinist Anne-Kathrin Lindig and consists of experienced musicians and educators.

The competition is open to ensembles in the genres of string trio and string quartet, as well as piano trio and piano quartet. Competitors of all nationalities must have been born after 30 March 1990. The competition is a member of the ‘World Federation of International Music Competitions’.

The international competition is named after the violinist, conductor and composer Joseph Joachim (1831-1907), who was part of Franz Liszt's inner circle during his time as concertmaster of the Weimar Court Orchestra. As one of the most important chamber musicians of the late 19th century, Joachim played in the legendary Liszt-Joachim-Coßmann piano trio.
