The best at the end

Final concert of the 64th Weimar Master Classes with the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra in the Weimarhalle

The festive final concert of the Weimar Master Classes is particularly popular: the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Markus L. Frank traditionally accompanies the musical showcase of the best participants of this year's international masterclasses at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar.

The concert "Die Besten zum Schluss" on Saturday, 3 August at 7:30 p.m. in the Weimarhalle was preceded by the intensive orchestra studio with the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra, in which popular orchestral works were rehearsed with the masterclass participants.

Selected participants from the various masterclasses for piano, violin, viola, violoncello and oboe will now take to the big stage. The programme includes the first movement of Niccolò Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1, played by Jou-Wen Liu from Taiwan. The virtuoso finale from Peter I. Tchaikovsky's only violin concerto op. 35 will also be performed by Sakura Nakagawa (Japan).

Japanese pianist Sora Hoppo will play César Franck's Symphonic Variations for piano and orchestra, while cellist Keisuke Morita - also from Japan - will perform various movements from Victor Herbert's Cello Concerto No. 2. Another item on the programme is the first movement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's oboe concerto in C major K. 314, performed by the German oboist Salomé Harth from Stefan Schilli's master class. Other orchestral works for viola and piano will also be performed.

The Jena Philharmonic Orchestra has been a loyal partner of the Weimar Masterclasses for more than 50 years. In addition to its quality as the largest concert orchestra in Thuringia, it is increasingly becoming a national and international figurehead and is a popular address for soloists and guest conductors of the highest international calibre.

Tickets for 20 euros, reduced 15 euros, are available from the Weimar Tourist Information Centre and at the box office.
