"In the Mood"

On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, the school music big band goes on tour

The school music big band is 25 years old and is celebrating with a small tour. Next weekend, the 20-member ensemble from the Institute for Music Education and Church Music will first travel to Klingenthal to perform there on May 12 as part of the 60th International Accordion Competition with accordionist and Weimar student Daniel Roth. On Saturday, May 13, they will travel to the Kurhaus in Bischofsgrün in the Fichtelgebirge mountains for another concert.

The "SchuMu" big band will then perform at the Jazztage in Arnstadt on June 3 and at the Kasseturm in Weimar on July 3. The program includes classics of big band literature such as "In the Mood", "Hey Mambo" and "Let's call the whole thing off". Soloists* are accordionist and Weimar student Daniel Roth and vocalist Vreni Röder.

"Vreni Röder is a vocal soloist from our institute who swings extremely well and enriches the program," says big band director Prof. Gero Schmidt-Oberländer. "In some pieces, Vreni and Daniel will also perform together, which are very special moments."

The "SchuMu" big band was founded in 1998 by Prof. Gero Schmidt-Oberländer and has become an important ensemble at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar. The band is a regular guest at Jazz Days and the Fête de la Musique, and is also invited to play on special occasions such as Thuringia Day or Buchenwald Memorial Day. The audience praises especially the band's joy of playing, which is transferred to the auditorium.
