"Mutual Challenging and Supporting"

Varied days of chamber music at the Weimar University of Music

The end of the winter semester at the Weimar University of Music is once again accompanied by the popular "Days of Chamber Music". In a total of eleven concerts between January 18 and February 9, students formed into duos, trios, quartets or larger ensembles will demonstrate how important chamber music playing is for their artistic development.

Admission to all concerts in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus and Saal Am Palais, in the Forum Seebach and in the Notenbank in Weimar is free.

"Making music together, rehearsing intensively, sticking together and challenging and supporting each other on stage is in any case one of the most important educational goals for aspiring musicians*," says the artistic director of the "Days of Chamber Music," Prof. Christian Wilm Müller.

"At the same time, diversity of the repertoire is almost unmissable, exciting and beautiful. Be quite cordially invited to the Days of Chamber Music at four venues with more than 60 ensembles of various stripes. We look forward to seeing you!"

To kick things off, the program "Beethoven and the 20th Century" will be heard on Wednesday, January 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Am Palais Hall. Among the works to be heard are Beethoven's Trio for Flute, Bassoon and Piano and an excerpt from his String Quintet in C Major, Op. 29. These works will be juxtaposed with Maurice Ravel's "Alborada del gracioso," Luboš Bernáth's Suite for Two Guitars and Kerry Turner's Horn Quartet No. 4.

"With Guitars and Trumpets" is the title of the second concert of the "Days of Chamber Music" on Saturday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Am Palais Hall. In addition to Eric Ewassen's "Concert fanfare" and Christoph Baumgarten's "Notturno" for accordion, guitar and music box, Joaquin Rodrigo's "Fandango del Ventorrillo" for two guitars will also be performed.

Then on Sunday, January 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus, the audience is invited to "Play of the Strings." Among the highlights will be Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor and his String Quartet in A minor, op. 13.
