A Ceremony of Carols

Advent concert with the Chamber Choir of the Weimar University of Music in the Herz-Jesu Church

The Chamber Choir of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar invites you to its traditional Advent concert. The excellent choir, conducted by Prof. Jürgen Puschbeck, will sing in crystal-clear polyphony on Thursday, 15 December at 7:30 pm in the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Weimar.

Soloists are Emily Hoppe (harp), Lena Heilmann (recorder), Rodrigo Aros (baroque violin) and Jeremy Andrew Bass (baroque guitar). The interested audience should dress warmly: It is very chilly in the church.

The main work of the evening on the programme is "A Ceremony of Carols" op. 28 by Benjamin Britten in an arrangement for mixed choir and harp by Julius Harrison. This touching Christmas wreath of carols was first performed in London in December 1943.

Based on poems by Gerald Bullett, the eleven-part work is sung in Middle English, from "Procession" to "That yonge' child" and "Deo Gratias".

The second part of the Advent concert will feature German and international Advent and Christmas tunes. The audience can look forward to well-known songs like "Es ist ein Ros entsprungen" and "Ich steh an deiner Krippen hier", but they can also look forward to rather unknown songs like "Fum, Fum, Fum" from Catalonia or "Who is the baby" by Rosephany Powell.

Finally, the chamber choir will sing "The twelve days of Christmas" and "In dulci jubilo".

Admission to the Advent concert is free.
