Vera Martínez Mehner (Spain)

The native Spaniard studied violin under Zakhar Bron and Serguei Fatkouline at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. As an extension of her performance degree, Vera Martínez Mehner also completed postgraduate studies at the University of Music in Cologne also in Prof. Zakhar Bron’s class. At the same time, she completed a postgraduate diploma of chamber music in that cathedral city as a member of the Cuarteto Casals quartet under the direction of Alban Berg. The violinist is co-founder of Cuarteto Casals, which has been successfully performing world-wide since 1997 and has produced ten CDs to date with the exclusive label “Harmonia Mundi”. In 1995, she won 1st prize at the international violin competition “Kloster Schöntal” and came second at the international “Henryk Wieniawsky” competition in Poland. Vera Martínez Mehner has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Europe and America conducted by Zubin Mehta, Yehudi Menuhin, James Judd, Victor Pablo, Daniel Harding and Paavo Järvi, amongst others. She has worked on projects with the German Chamber Philharmonic Bremen many times and dedicates herself to the performance of contemporary music as a member of “Ensembles Funktion”. She became Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya in 2003.
