Miguel da Silva (France / Switzerland)

He was a founding member of the renown Ysaÿe Quartet, which left the international music scene in 2014 after 30-years of success. Born in Reims 1961, Miguel da Silva studied at the Parisian Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique under Serge Collot. By 1985 he had already won one an important 1st prize at an international chamber music competition in Paris. As a sought-after viola player, he has not only performed with the Ysaÿe Quartet, but also together with Paul Meyer, Leonidas Kavakos, Truls Mørk, Gary Hoffmann and Emmanuel Pahud. Solo and chamber music engagements have led him to venues such as the Wigmore Hall in London, the Teatro della Fenice, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and to the Salzburger Festspielhaus. He has performed with orchestras like the Paris Chamber Orchestra, the Polish Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre d’Auvergne and the Franz Liszt Orchestra of Budapest. Miguel da Silva has recorded numerous CDs with his quartet. With “Ysaÿe Records”, he even founded his own label. He has taught at the University of Music in Lübeck, the European Chamber Music Academy, the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva, as well as at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium.
