Angelika Merkle (Germany)

She is a true expert for piano chamber music but has also learned artistic song interpretation from the best in the field. Angelika Merkle not only studied piano under Klaus Schilde in Munich and Leonard Hokanson in Bloomington (USA), but also took lessons from Helmut Deutsch and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau in Berlin. She started winning merits in chamber music early on: In 1994, she won 1st prize at the international chamber music competitions “Carlo Soliva” and “Vittorio Gui”. This was followed by a career in chamber music performance in Europe and all over the world with performances at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Louvre in Paris, and at festivals in the USA and Japan. In addition to this, there was a plethora of CD recordings, TV performances, and radio recordings with the radio stations of Bavaria, Hessen, and other stations like the RAI, Radio Suisse Romande and programmes in Mexico and Chile. After teaching in Munich for many years, Angelika Merkle was awarded a professorship for piano chamber music at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts in 2003 in Frankfurt am Main. She also teaches this subject at the University of Music in Karlsruhe. In 2014, she took over as Artistic Director at the chamber music concert series “Festeburgkonzerte” in Frankfurt.
