Durch Eignungsprüfungen soll der Nachweis einer besonderen künstlerischen Eignung für den gewählten Studiengang im Hinblick auf das beabsichtigte Studienziel erbracht werden.

Hierzu gehören insbesondere eine entwickelte musikalische Begabung, Interpretationsfähigkeit und Gestaltungswille sowie ein ausgebildetes instrumental-, vokal- oder bewegungstechnisches Vermögen auf der Grundlage ausgeprägter, auf das Fach bezogener technischer Fertigkeiten und Kenntnisse über musikalische Funktionen und Zusammenhänge.

Außerdem ist der Nachweis der musikalischen Hörfähigkeit und musiktheoretischer Kenntnisse zu erbringen.

Theoretische Teile der Eignungsprüfung für ein grundständiges Studium sowie die Eignungsprüfung im Nebenfach Klavier können auf Antrag hin erlassen werden, wenn der Nachweis bereits erbrachter adäquater Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen in den entsprechenden Fächern erfolgt.

Der Antrag auf Erlass von Prüfungsteilen ist mit der Bewerbung, jedoch bis spätestens drei Wochen vor dem Eignungsprüfungstermin unter Vorlage der entsprechenden Leistungsnachweise schriftlich beim Prüfungsausschuss der Hochschule zu stellen. Geht der Antrag später ein, wird er nicht mehr berücksichtigt. In diesem Fall legt die/der Bewerber*in die Eignungsprüfung in vollem Umfang ab.

In addition to fulfilling formal requirements, applicants for diploma, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees, and for the programme in music education must demonstrate their artistic aptitude for their chosen subject in an audition/examination. The legislative basis of the application process, for the entry examinations/auditions, and for their assessment can be found in § 61 of the Thüringer Hochschulgesetz, the enrolment regulations, and the audition regulations of the University of Music  FRANZ LISZT Weimar.
 

Scope
The entrance exam/audition assesses the chosen main subject or the instrumental core subject, as well as the minor subjects piano, music theory, and aural skills. In a number of programmes, the main subject is assessed in multiple sessions. If the examination board concludes that the candidate does not hold the required skills for a study of the main subject or the instrumental core subject, the remaining parts of the examination may be omitted.

The submitted examination programme is for the assessors' information only. It requires neither permission nor rejection. The assessors are not compelled to hear all pieces offered by the candidate. They may select from the programme and / or interrupt the candidate during their performance.
 

Exemption from examinations
Candidates may be exempt from individual parts of the entrance examinations (with the exception of the main subject) on written request and only if courses and exams in the relevant minor subjects have already been taken, for example at a different institution. Documentation of such prior coursework is to be submitted by a candidate in advance of the entrance examination.
 

Unavailability
Should you be unable to take the entrance examination, you must inform the relevant Department immediately.
 

Result
The result of the entrance examination is communicated in written form within ca. four weeks. Generally, a successful examination entitles the applicant to take up the proposed programme in the following term only. Candidates who fail the entrance examination will be allowed to take the examination for the same subject only one further time, normally at the next available application date. In exceptional cases, the repetition of individual examination sections may be permitted at an earlier date if the candidate has demonstrated a particular aptitude in the examination for the main subject. This is the case if the candidate has achieved at least 3.0 points more than required for the successful completion of this part of the examination. Decisions on these matters are made by the examination board.
