26 - 31 July 2020

The Dutchman Pieter Wispelwey feels equally at home in baroque and modern cello repertoire, regularly giving concerts across five continents as an internationally sought-after artist, as a guest of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic and London Philharmonic Orchestras or as a soloist in the Louvre in Paris, the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aries and the Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles. His repertoire ranges from Johann Sebastian Bach to Alfred Schnittke and has already had several contemporary composers dedicate works to him. In 2012, Pieter Wispelwey recorded Bach's cello suites in their entirety on CD for the third time, and in a number of solo concerts performed all of the suites on a single evening, earning him much applause from both European and American music critics. Born in Haarlem, Wispelwey plays a cello by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini (1760) as well as a baroque cello by Rombouts (1710).
