Markus Leoson‘s career began early and progressed rapidly: as a young student at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm he was admitted at the age of 15 and graduated four years later. At the age of 20, the Royal Court Orchestra in Stockholm engaged him as a percussionist, and one year later he became principal timpanist with the Danish Radio Orchestra. But Markus Leoson returned to Stockholm and became principal timpanist of the Royal Court Orchestra in 1993. One of his greatest competition successes was a 2nd prize (with 1st prize not awarded) at the ARD Music Competition in Munich in 1997. Leoson stayed in Stockholm for 15 years until he was appointed professor of percussion at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar in 2008. He now performs as a solo percussionist throughout Europe and Asia as well as giving master classes worldwide. His first solo CD from 1996 was followed by many others, of which the recording Markussion was nominated for the Swedish Grammy Awards in 2003.
