The 'German School of Music Weimar' in South Korea
The LISZT SCHOOL of Music Weimar is the first German music academy to offer study abroad. Together with the South Korean Kangnam University, the LISZT SCHOOL operates a Korean-German College of Music with the title 'German School of Music Weimar' at the Kangnam University in Yongin near Seoul. Since March 2005, a Korean-German Bachelor course of studies 'major in Music' in violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet and piano is on offer.In the Korean-German Bachelor Course (Major in Music), there are six professors. The artistic lessons on the principal instrument are taught by the professors according to the German curriculum in the German language. Korean teachers supervise the rest of the lessons according to the Korean curriculum. German is taught at the same time as a foreign language.
On 4 March 2005, the official opening of the German School of Music Weimar took place in Yongin near Seoul (see photo). At the beginning of 2009, the fifth entrance examinations in the six fields of study were held. At the moment there are more than 50 students enrolled at the German School.
