Study
A course at the "German School of Music Weimar" lasts eight semesters. Conditions for admission is an audition in the main instrument. After the fourth semester there is an intermediate test in the artistic-musical subjects, at the same time an examination in German leading to a 'certificate in German' of the approved by the Goethe Institute. The fifth and sixth semesters are for some of the students to be spent in Weimar, during which the students sit the "middle stage examination" at the Goethe Institute. After the eighth semester the final examination must be taken.At the end of the establishment phase of the Korean-German Bachelor course 'major in Music', there will be 12 students in each of the following fields: violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet and piano. The classrooms in The Kangnam University in Yongin near Seoul fulfil the acoustic requirements found in German colleges of music. The key-board instruments in the classrooms are comparable to those in German music colleges and come from Germany. The German School of Music Weimar is an "All Steinway School".
Kangnam University as a partner
The partner academy in Korea is the Kangnam University. The Kangnam University (founded in 1992) is a private university, which with its institutes and schools has existed since 1946. Their three faculties offer more than 10,000 students subjects ranging from theology, educational sciences, social sciences, economics, engineering courses in media and electronics, as well as architecture, art, sport and music.
The fees for the course per semester are 7,400,000 W (approx. 5,000 €) for the first semester, for the following semesters 6,500,000 W (approx. 4,200 €). Students who are presently studying for a Korean Bachelor of Music at the Kangnam University pay per semester 3.193.000 W (approx. 2,110 €) which is the current rate for university fees in Korea.
