Future Music

The LISZT SCHOOL of Music is a dynamic, internationally accredited university of music located at Europe’s historic cultural meeting point, Weimar. Each year, we welcome talented students at both undergraduate and graduate levels from all over the globe. We offer a multifaceted, modern and comprehensive musical foundation, reflecting developments in the areas of performance, music theory and musicology. Throughout Germany and abroad, first-class orchestral activities and projects of international significance testify to our ongoing vitality. Our students are attracted by the opportunity to receive the highest quality education from outstanding professors, propelling music into the future in the tradition of Franz Liszt.

The LISZT SCHOOL of Music’s priorities are:

Teaching:

  • first-rate artistic, pedagogic, and musicological training in the company of first-class instructors with national and international professional networks
  • advancing the development of culture and education in Thuringia, the heart of Germany’s musical history

Orchestral activity:

  • early support of especially talented young instrumentalists from the Music High School at Schloss Belvedere, centre of excellence for The Liszt School of Music
  • performance-oriented training through diverse and demanding projects with one of the finest university orchestras in Germany
  • extended training for the orchestral academy’s exceptional musicians, in connection with the Weimar State Orchestra

Weimar Master Classes and International Competitions:

  • internationally recognised guest professors foster new, up-and-coming talent
  • presentation of the youngest artists at the highest level of performance in world-renowned piano, violin, and chamber music competitions

Joint Ventures:

  • international network-building and exchanges through the “ERASMUS-Programme” of the European Union
  • nationwide, the most varied exchange opportunities for students and professors: to date, 93 partner universities in 30 countries
  • implementation of “Campus Thuringia” through the combination of our Department of Musicology and Culture Management with the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena as well as through the educational opportunities at the Bauhaus University Weimar and the University of Erfurt
